At Heartlands Hospital, James Brindley provide education for any children and young people, aged 2 to 19, whilst they are receiving inpatient or regular day patient care.
We deliver teaching at the bedside, enabling staff to offer a very unique 1:1 personalised teaching and learning experience for all of our pupils.
Priority is given to long stay or re-admitted pupils, those with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP), and those approaching examinations. We cover all areas of the National Curriculum and encourage our pupils to get involved and participate in ward activities arranged by external visitors where there may be further opportunity to develop core skills such as collaboration and communication.
The length of stay here at Heartlands Hospital can vary from 1 day to a fortnight, depending on the type and severity of illness. Our re-attenders generally consist of our Cystic Fibrosis patients, Asthmatics, Diabetics and Mental Health patients.
Teaching takes place on Wards 15 & 16 of the Paediatrics Unit and Ward 15 is where our James Brindley School office is located.
